Professor Olufemi Idowu

MBBS (Ibadan), MSc (Anatomy), FWACS (Neurosurgery), FACS, IFAANS, Cert Neurophy

A professor in the Department of Surgery, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, he has contributed immensely to the discipline. He obtained his MBBS and MSc in Anatomy from the University of Ibadan where he established the foundations of his career in medicine. After completing his academic activities, he went further to develop his expertise by becoming a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, where he specialized in neurosurgery with a focus on the brain and spinal cord. With a rich professional experience of over 18 years, he has established himself as a qualified neurosurgeon with recognition for his dexterity and dedication to the field.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he currently holds the high-ranking position of provost at the Lagos State University College of Medicine, where he plays a key role in shaping the future of medical training and education. His leadership is marked by a commitment to excellence and innovation in the practice of medicine.

In addition, he is also an acclaimed researcher, contributing significantly to the scholarly community with nearly 80 publications. His research activities are primarily focused on major areas including the brain, spine, spinal cord, and anatomical structures, demonstrating his immense interest and experience in the field. With his activities in various roles as a teacher, clinician, and researcher, he continues to make significant contributions to the healthcare industry in Nigeria and elsewhere.

Professor Ololade Wright

(MBChB, MPH, FMCPH, MD, PgD)

A Professor of Public Health and Community Medicine at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, she began her academic journey at the University of Ife, where she earned her MBChB degree, followed by a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Lagos. Additionally, she completed a fellowship in Community Medicine and Public Health (FMCPH) and earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the National Postgraduate Medical Council of Nigeria (NPMCN). She also obtained a postgraduate diploma in Pediatric Nutrition from Boston University, USA. An accomplished researcher with over 100 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, she is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Community Medicine and Primary Healthcare (JCMPHC), an official publication of the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN). An internationally recognized scholar in her field, she is committed to academics and research. Her appointment as Editor-in-Chief of JCMPHC underscores her significant impact on public health and science communication. Her diverse research interests encompass key areas such as women’s health, child health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and population health. Through her work, she aims to tackle critical health challenges, particularly in underserved communities, and promote the advancement of public health practices at both local and global levels. With her extensive experience and dedication to improving health outcomes, she is an invaluable asset to both the academic community and the broader healthcare sector.

Professor Bola Adekoya

MBBS, FWACS(Ophth), FMCOphth, MSc (London), DipLSHTM

Professor Bola Adekoya is an eminent practitioner of the medical field of Ophthalmology with Fellowships from both the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN).

Professor Adekoya's dedication to public health is further reflected in her attainment of a Master's degree in Public Eye Health, which enables her to deal with ocular health concerns on a more general scale. Her academic qualification from renowned institutions like the University of London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has given her a good grounding in clinical practice as well as public health policy.

Additionally, she has received the Boulter (UK) and Commonwealth scholarship awards. Her research field includes general ophthalmology, glaucoma, medical retina, and methods aimed at preventing blindness. Her excellence in academics was rewarded when she received the much-sought-after Prof. Abiose's prize for having the highest score in the 2004 Part 1 examination of the NPMCN, which testifies to her diligence and intellectual capacities.

Apart from her academic success, Professor Adekoya has made a huge contribution to the practice of ophthalmology through her vast research activities and prolific publications. With a portfolio of over 40 published articles, she has investigated a range of subjects pertinent to general ophthalmology, glaucoma, and ocular trauma, hence offering valuable insights and advancing knowledge in these fields.

DR OLUWAJIMI SODIPO

MBBS, FWACP

As a renowned consultant Family Physician, he has served in the prestigious position of heading the Family Medicine Department at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. His vast knowledge cuts across a broad spectrum of clinical research topics, and he proudly has an excellent record of well over 20 publications. These publications are essential contributions to the continuous growth and enrichment of medical knowledge in the community and the profession as a whole. He finished his medical degree and a fellowship in the specialized field of Family Medicine from Ahmadu Bello University, a highly respected Nigerian university. In addition to this extensive training, he has also become certified as a sexual assault physician, which serves to further highlight his complete commitment to resolving difficult health issues with sensitivity and a high degree of professionalism.

DR AFOLABI OYAPERO

BDS (Lagos), MPH (Lagos), FMCDS (Nig.)



Dr. Afolabi Oyapero, Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Lagos; Master of Public Health, Lagos; and fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, is renowned as a leading authority in Dental Public Health. His academic pursuits have been marked by excellence in preclinical and clinical training. He is also certified by the Mayo Clinic as a Tobacco Cessation Treatment Specialist. His work experience entails working with ministries of health, universities, teaching hospitals, federal governments, and international organizations in a number of countries that comprise Nigeria, Japan, Canada, Germany, and America. He has worked with renowned institutions such as Global Bridges at the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Ontario Tobacco Research Unit, Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco, and the University of Iowa. He is a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in the Faculty of Dentistry, Lagos State University, and in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. Dr. Afolabi has more than 50 scientific peer-reviewed publications, two textbook chapters, two published policy documents, and 21 conference abstracts. He has attended more than 50 scientific conferences with more than 20 presentations. His areas of expertise include epidemiology, tobacco control, policy development, and public health program planning and evaluation. He has served in leadership roles on professional societies and has been the recipient of many forms of honors, scholarships, and awards with a particular emphasis on tobacco cessation and control, oral health policy, oral diseases, and overall quality of life.

DR LAWSON OBAZENU

MBBS, MSc Pub Health ( UK)


Dr Lawson Obazenu is a Nigerian-trained, UK-based medical practitioner with the NHS Trust, he is committed to research, public health, and healthcare transformation.

He earned his MBBS from the prestigious University of Ibadan and commenced his postgraduate training in Anaesthesia and Critical Care at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. His passion for public health and health promotion led him to the UK, where he obtained an MSc in Public Health from Swansea University.

A prolific researcher, he has published widely in international peer-reviewed journals, shaping clinical guidelines, improving patient outcomes, and advancing global medical knowledge. As Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Journal of Medicine, he enhanced its global impact and visibility, earning accolades and awards  for his leadership.

Beyond medicine, he is a youth advocate and entrepreneur . As the Founder and Executive Director of the Resourceful Youth Network Initiative (RYNI), he has empowered thousands of Nigerian youths through mentorship, skill development, and national capacity-building programs. His dedication to youth development has created opportunities for aspiring professionals in healthcare and beyond.

He has held various leadership roles in, Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), and Commonwealth Medical Association ( CMA), contributing to policy reforms, healthcare delivery, and professional collaboration that has improved the healthcare sector in Nigeria and globally . His influence extends across Nigeria and international medical communities, driving initiatives that strengthen public health systems and medical education.

A British Medical Association member, he remains devoted to medical research, healthcare innovation, and youth empowerment, shaping the future of global health.
